Gemini
Gemini

Gemini (also known as Sôseiji) is a 1999 horror film by Shinya Tsukamoto, loosely based on an Edogawa Ranpo story, which pursues his theme of the brutally physical and animalistic side of human beings rearing its ugly head underneath a civilized veneer, present in previous films like Tetsuo: The Iron Man (1989) and Tokyo Fist (1995), in what is a new territory for Tsukamoto—a story set in the late Meiji era (1868–1912) with no stop-motion photography and

64 (Rokuyon)
64 (Rokuyon)

While the public relations office of D Prefectural Police is having a confrontation with the correspondents' club, over the issue of the anonymity of perpetrators, it is decided that a Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department director will inspect the home of the family of the victim in "64", an important unsolved case with its statute of limitation about to run out one week later. The kidnapping and murder of Shoko-chan which took place in just 7 days in 1989 (Showa 64) was the worst in D Prefectural Police's history. The family of the deceased decline the director's visit to offer condolences. A gag order is imposed on those involved in 64 such as the investigators at the time. An iron curtain between the Criminal Investigations Department and the Police Affairs Department. A mysterious memo. Then a new kidnapping that happens right before the director's inspection, is a exact copycat of 64. -

Thunder Cops
Thunder Cops

A sequel to the entertaining "Operation Pink Squad" (1988) that throws a heavy dose of comedy and horror into the mix. The Pink Squad (Sandra Ng, Anne Bridgewater, and some other Asian beauty) get assigned to go undercover as Japanese hostesses in order to break up a counterfeiting ring led by Shing Fui On. They are also aided by the Captain's niece, played with exuberance by a very young and extremely cute Cheung Man, who ends up stealing the show (at least for me). Sandra and Billy Lau are now married, and Billy is convinced that his wife is having an affair with the police Captain (typecast Wu Fong) as the result of some silly miscommunication. He spends the first half of the film devising fiendishly amusing ways to punish the adulterers, and even fantasizes that he's Chow Yun-Fat from "The Killer" (1989) at one point. During the sting operation, the girls' new headquarters are in a haunted apartment that Buddhist monk Yuen Chueng Yan is in the process of exorcising. One of the ghosts manages to get away and wreaks all sorts of havoc on all the main characters. After numerous mishaps, our heroes finally manage to cut off the ghost's head, which just makes her mad. Now the good guys are being chased around by a headless body and a flying head! As luck would have it, the head falls into the villain's (Shing Fui On) bag, and he runs off with it thinking it's the counterfeit printing plates. More silliness ensues. Finally, in the last twenty minutes, all of the heroes band together and banish all of the evil spirits back to hell.

Concrete
Concrete

Based on Jôji Atsumi's non-fiction novel Jûnana-sai: aku no rirekisho - the tagline for the movie, "Seventeen, Evil Resume" ("resume" = résumé), was a translation of the book's title - Concrete (Konkurîto) tells the real-life story of how, in 1989, a group of male youths in Tokyo, ranging in age from 16 to 18, abducted a 17-year-old high school girl, raped and otherwise abused her for 41 days, then murdered her. They put her corpse into a 50-gallon oil drum, filled the drum with concrete - hence the movie's title - then dumped it in a reclaimed land area. Katsuya Matsumura's 1995 movie Concrete-Encased High School Girl Murder Case (Joshikôsei konkurîto-zume satsujin-jiken) [viewer discretion is advised] was based on the same murder case as Concrete. - - Twitch
