A variety show in which cast members will go to a South Korean landmark and play games there. There are several games to be played within the landmark and at least one of them has to do with the specific landmark and with running, hence the title Running Man.
Various contestants take part in a game show with a prize of 10 billion won. The contestants who can cheat the others wins the prize. Contestants include genius swindler Cha Woo Jin and naive college student Nam Da Jung.
Sakurai plays the host of a live TV quiz program. On the show, contestants who achieve 7 correct answers win 10 million yen, and those who get 8 correct answers will have one of their wishes granted by the TV network. But while the questions start off innocently enough, as the game progresses, the questions gradually delve into the contestants' past crimes or indiscretions, presenting them with the dilemma of having to confess their guilt in order to win. Sakurai's character also has a mysterious past. Before becoming the show's host, an accident had left him in a vegetative state for six years, which also resulted in him losing most of his memories.
To exact revenge, the Liar Game office is revived. The target is only one person - Shinichi Akiyama. Because of new heroine Shinomiya, Shinichi, who kept refusing to take part in the game, finds himself in the game.
An odd murder case that only targets the person whose last name is "SATO" was happening in Japan. Meanwhile, high school student SATO Tsubasa winds up in a parallel world during a fight with gangster. Everything seemed the same, but his friends, classmates were somehow different from who they used to be. Tsubasa could not comprehend what was happening around him, but when he sees a girl getting killed in front of him by a persuer, he finds out that he is now in a world where the Lord of the land plays a fatal game of "tag". The real chasing game (ONIGOKKO) that targets people named "SATO". If you get clear away for few hours a day when the game is on going, and succeeds in running away for a week in total, any wish you have comes true. Tsubasa eventually notices that the parallel world is linked to the real world, killing same person who has already been killed in the parallel world. And when the siren sounds to signify that ONIGOKKO has begun, Tsubasa races to protect his sister who of course has the same last name.
The naive Kanzaki Nao and expert swindler Akiyama Shinichi have not heard anything from the LIAR GAME organization since the end of the previous game, so it seems they may have actually escaped. But Nao suddenly gets another invitation and is once again caught up in the game. This time, she has to team up with Shinichi and one of their previous rivals named Fukunaga, facing off against three more opponents in new games of deception, such as "24 Rensou Russian Roulette" and "17 Poker."
